# CLI reference

> Every revcenter command, its options, what it returns, and whether it uses shortlist credits.

  **Coming soon.** The `revcenter` CLI is not published yet, so it can't be installed. Until it is, use the
  [API](/quickstart): every command below maps to an endpoint in the [API reference](/api-reference/introduction).

`rvc` will be installed as a short alias. How the CLI finds its key, what it prints and how it exits are in
[CLI basics](/concepts/cli-basics).

## Commands

| Command | Does | Credits |

| `revcenter auth login [--key <key>] [--api-url <url>]` | Checks a key against the API and saves it. Without `--key`, reads it from standard input or a hidden prompt. | Does not use shortlist credits. |
| `revcenter auth status` | The key in use (masked), where it came from, the API address, and how many projects it sees. | Does not use shortlist credits. |
| `revcenter auth logout` | Deletes the saved key. | Does not use shortlist credits. |
| `revcenter mcp` | Runs the [MCP server](/tools/mcp) over standard input and output. | Does not use shortlist credits itself. |
| `revcenter reference` | Every criteria field, filter or score, its values, and an example. | Does not use shortlist credits. |
| `revcenter industries <word>` | LinkedIn industries matching a word, with their ids. | Does not use shortlist credits. |
| `revcenter projects` | The workspace's projects. | Does not use shortlist credits. |
| `revcenter project create <name>` | Makes a project. | Does not use shortlist credits. |
| `revcenter project <project_id>` | One project. | Does not use shortlist credits. |
| `revcenter search <project_id> --criteria <file.json>` | Launches a search on your criteria. | Uses 1 shortlist credit per search; none with `--database-only`. |

| `revcenter status <search_id> [--wait]` | A search's status, stage and outcome. `--wait` checks every 10 seconds until it finishes (up to 15 minutes). | Does not use shortlist credits. |
| `revcenter people <search_id> [--min-score <n>] [--limit <n>] [--no-profile]` | Everyone it scored, best first. | Does not use shortlist credits. |

| `revcenter remove <project_id> <candidate_id> [--reason "<text>"]` | Takes someone off the shortlist. | Does not use shortlist credits. |

`search` also takes `--database-only`, `--target <n>` (how many to aim for, 1 to 100) and `--key <key>`, an
idempotency key: run the same command with the same `--key` again and you get the same search, never a second
credit. The same `--key` with another project or other criteria fails with `idempotency_key_reused`
([idempotency keys](/guides/errors#idempotency-keys)). Without `--key`, each run makes a new one.

`remove` returns `{ "removed": false }`, with exit status 0, when the person was not on the shortlist.
