# Executive search sourcing

> Turn a mandate into criteria, run one search, and refine the slate without spending again.

A mandate names a role, a place and what the person must have done. Revcenter turns that into one search and a
scored slate.

1. **Write criteria that filter.** Titles and their synonyms in `title_variants`, the place in `metro` (or
   `allowed_metros`), seniority, years and current industries. These narrow who is read before anything is
   spent. See [criteria](/guides/criteria).
2. **Name what must be evidenced.** Certifications and licenses go in `must_have`, each one short.
3. **Run one search** in a project for the mandate. It uses 1 shortlist credit and finishes as *Shortlist
   ready*, *Poor yield* or *No results*.
4. **Refine for free.** Preview a lower cut-off or new weights, and search your workspace's own candidates
   again, before spending on an [expansion](/guides/searches#getting-more-people).
5. **Hand the slate over** as a CSV with every person's full profile.

Each person comes with `fit`, the readings behind their score, so you can say why someone is on the slate.
